What is Restorative Dental Care?

Restorative dental care covers any procedure that aims to restore the normal function and appearance of your smile.

By repairing structural problems such as damaged or missing teeth, our dentists can help restore your smile – and your oral health.

Depending on your issue, the dentists at Brandon Dental Centre will determine the right restorative treatment option for you.

Dental Crowns & Bridges

Crowns

Crowns are porcelain caps that are placed on top of teeth to restore their function and appearance. Crowns are used to attach bridges, cover dental implants or prevent a cracked tooth from worsening. They can also help to restore a discoloured or stained tooth to its natural appearance.

Bridges

Bridges are natural-looking tooth replacements that are bonded to existing teeth or dental implants to replace a section of missing teeth. Because they are custom-made, bridges are barely noticeable and can restore the natural contour of teeth and the bite between upper and lower teeth.

Dental Fillings

Composite Fillings

At Brandon Dental Centre, we use composite (tooth-coloured) fillings to repair a cavity or tooth damage, like a crack. These fillings can withstand moderate pressure from the constant stress of chewing, and can be used on front and back teeth. They also closely match the colour of your teeth.

Amalgam Fillings

Amalgam fillings are more versatile than newer composite materials and are often placed on teeth that receive a lot of pressure and wear from chewing. Made with mercury, silver, tin and copper, they are budget-friendly and highly durable, making them less likely to fracture than other materials.

Full & Partial Dentures

Full Dentures

Commonly referred to as complete dentures or false teeth, full dentures are ideal if you are missing an entire jaw of teeth

They can be fitted for your upper or lower jaw, and are held in place with the assistance of an oral adhesive or suction.

They allow patients with missing teeth to maintain their face structure, and talk and eat properly.

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures will likely be used if you are missing more than a few teeth.

They are made of one or more artificial teeth held in place by clasps that fit your natural teeth, or a tooth replacement such as a dental crown. These can be removed for sleeping and cleaning.

Root Canals

Why would I need a root canal?

Sometimes, infections occur in the pulp of a tooth - the soft tissue on the interior of a tooth. This requires dental intervention as it can result in an abscess, which can lead to tooth or bone loss.

Because this infection may have a severe impact on your overall health, a root canal is needed to eliminate the infection and prevent it from reoccurring.

The Root Canal Procedure

During a root canal, your dentist removes diseased blood vessels, nerves and tissues from the interior of a tooth.

By removing the decay and bacteria, your dentist can help halt the spread of infection and prevent the need for an extraction. A crown will typically be placed to protect the tooth.
